THAI CELADON POTTERY

The rich colors of celadon pottery are derived from the use of iron oxide in the glaze, often resulting in subtle tones of brown, green, golden and grey. Beautiful, delicate patterns can be created by the trained potter. Early in the tradition of Chinese and Asian ceramics, iron oxide was used as a substitute for cobalt oxide in the glazes of fine pottery.

Interestingly Enough, while cobalt oxide generated the brilliant blues of the vases of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the rich, earthy tones of celadon pottery have retained their appeal, elegance and value over the centuries.

Our Thai celadon dinnerware is dishwasher and microwave safe unless labeled otherwise. Oversized and highly decorated pieces should be hand washed and wiped with a soft cloth.
